There is still a very high youth unemployment rate in Spain, due the economic crisis during the years 2007 and 2008. In 2016 44.4% of the young people aged between 15 to 24 years old did not have work. This situation creates high levels of insecurity, resignation and a high risk of social exclusion.

Another alarming figure is the high percentage of young people leaving the education system prematurely which is far higher than the EU’s average. Although the rate already has declined during the last six years, this number is still too elevated. SocialForest wants to address these young people who are confronted with the biggest problem of finding work. Through our training concept Forest Coaching we teach them knowledge and skills necessary to gain a foothold in the forestry sector. We are particularly concerned with not only offering professional qualifications, but also fostering their personal development, self-esteem and love of life.

Our objective is to prevent them from social exclusion. In 2016, 37.6% of Spanish young people found themselves in this precarious situation. SocialForest cannot and does not want to accept such a high rate. This is why we will do everything in our power to combat these social evils.

Our approach is easy: we train youngsters with our “Forest Coaching” concept and offer the possibility to prove themselves in the world of work and find a job they enjoy that supports a good standard of living.

Through this work we are able to reduce the social and health care systems’ costs as the state no longer has to provide for unemployed young people. Moreover, they are more equable due to hard physical work in nature which has positive effects on their health and well-being.
